Company Description

Part of Dentsu International, Dentsu Creative is a Global Creative Network that transforms brands and businesses through the power of Modern Creativity. Led by Global Chief Creative Officer Fred Levron, 9,000 experts across the globe work seamlessly together to deliver ideas that Create Culture, Shape Society and Invent the Future. Dentsu Creative was launched in June 2022 to address a client need for simplicity and will be Dentsu International’s sole creative network by the end of 2022.

Job Description

We’re looking to hire a Creative Director, Social to join our rapidly growing Social Creative Lab at Dentsu Creative. You will report to the Group Creative Director and will be working on Social AOR for multiple well-known brands – this includes evergreen social, reactive opportunities and larger social-first campaigns, as well as in-house and external productions, and new biz pitches.

Our culture is everything. Everyone is here to make great work in a collaborative environment that runs on creative energy. We also make a promise… if you join our group, you will make a lot of great work for your book.

Key Accountabilities

Dedication to craft:

  • We want to make beautiful things for the internet in whatever format is deemed most relevant. We stand out in the market because every detail is considered. We consider the small things as much as we do the big.

‘Of the internet’ thinking:

  • We’re looking for talent that has a deep passion for people and how they activate on the internet. You’ll need to be able to connect our brands to culture and have a strong track record of consistency with groundbreaking campaigns.
  • You should be obsessed with pop culture, have a personal interest in social networks – particularly TikTok, Twitter and Instagram – and whatever cool new thing pops up next.
  • You’re an early adopter and experimenter – you were playing around with BeReal months ago.
  • You’re a social-first creative who understands social-first thinking doesn’t end in channel
  • You have the belief that all facets of social are powerful and deserve the same care – from text-only tweets to an IG story to collaborating with the influencer team, and especially large activations that drive UGC.

Things this job is NOT:

  • A social post factory.
  • We are not the ‘can you do the social posts for my TV spot’ group. We win our own clients. We run our own projects. We have our own relationships with clients (and they really are awesome).
  • Limited. We work whatever format makes sense for the project.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience
  • Examples of digital-first thinking. You need to love the internet and creating in that space.
  • Comfortable leading large teams (ex: 5-8 creatives at a time per client); we move at speed, we make lots of work, we need clear-eyed leaders. You need to love mentoring junior talent.
  • Interest in and ability to manage high volume of work while maintaining a high level of craft and creativity
  • You can master and keep straight multiple tones of voice
  • Independent and forward-thinker who believes in total accountability
  • Experience building and navigating relationships and trust with clients
  • Multiple levels of production experience – from big to small budgets
  • Understanding of importance of strategy to the work that we do and authoritatively push internal partners to get creative teams what they need

What is an entertainment career?

An entertainment career encompasses a broad spectrum of roles and activities within the creative industries, including film, television, music, theater, and digital media. These careers involve the creation, production, and distribution of content designed to entertain, inform, and engage audiences. Here’s a closer look at the various aspects of an entertainment career, what it involves, and the opportunities it presents.

Key Sectors in Entertainment

1. Film and Television: This sector includes jobs ranging from acting, directing, and screenwriting to more technical roles like cinematography, sound engineering, and editing. Professionals in this field work on movies, TV shows, commercials, and documentaries.

2. Music: Careers in music are diverse and can range from performing as a singer or instrumentalist to roles behind the scenes such as music production, songwriting, and managing artists.

3. Theater: Theater professionals may work as actors, directors, set designers, or playwrights. This field emphasizes live performances and often requires a strong background in performing arts.

4. Digital Media: With the rise of internet content consumption, digital media careers have become highly popular. This includes digital content creation, animation, video game design, and roles in emerging platforms like streaming services.

5. Event Management and Promotion: This involves organizing concerts, premieres, sports events, and other entertainment functions. Careers here include event planners, promoters, and logistical support roles.

Educational Paths

Most roles in entertainment require a combination of formal education and hands-on experience. Degrees in film, theater, music, digital arts, or media studies are common among professionals in this field. However, many skills in the entertainment industry are honed through apprenticeships, internships, and on-the-job training.

Skills Required

A successful career in entertainment often demands creativity, perseverance, and a strong work ethic. Technical skills specific to an industry segment—like editing software proficiency for filmmakers or digital audio workstations knowledge for music producers—are also crucial. Soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and networking, are essential, given the collaborative nature of the industry.

Career Opportunities and Challenges

Entertainment careers can be incredibly rewarding, offering the chance to work on creative projects and sometimes gaining public recognition. However, these careers can also be highly competitive and unpredictable. Job stability can be an issue, as work is often project-based and may involve periods of unemployment between gigs. Moreover, the rise of digital technologies continues to reshape career paths in entertainment, creating new opportunities but also challenges for traditional roles.

Conclusion

An entertainment career can be dynamic and exciting, suited for those passionate about creating content that moves and entertains audiences. Whether you’re drawn to the spotlight or interested in the technical and strategic sides of the industry, there’s a wide range of opportunities to explore. As with any field, success in entertainment requires dedication, adaptability, and continual learning.

For anyone considering this path, understanding the scope of the industry, the necessary skills, and the typical career trajectories can provide a solid foundation for making informed decisions about entering and navigating this competitive field.
